3 Fantastic Ways to Get Your Kid Outside This Summer

As the days grow longer and the weather warms up, it's the perfect time to encourage your child to spend more time outdoors. At Greenfield's Oak Tree, we believe in the power of outdoor exploration and adventure to foster creativity, promote physical activity, and connect kids with the wonders of nature. Here are three fantastic ways to get your kid outside and enjoy all that summer has to offer!

  1. Nature Scavenger Hunts: Create a list of items for your child to find in the great outdoors, such as a smooth rock, a feather, a pinecone, or a certain type of flower. Then, set out together to explore parks, trails, or even your own backyard as you search for each item on the list. Not only is this activity fun and engaging, but it also encourages kids to observe their surroundings and appreciate the beauty of the natural world.

  2. Outdoor Arts and Crafts: Challenge your child’s creativity with outdoor arts and crafts activities! Set up a designated outdoor art station with supplies such as chalk, outdoor paint, and natural materials like leaves, sticks, and flowers. Encourage your child to let their imagination soar as they create masterpieces inspired by the beauty of nature. Have them create a nature collage, craft leaf crowns, and draw their favorite animals with chalk. Outdoor arts and crafts provide endless opportunities for creative expression and outdoor enjoyment.

  3. Park a few minutes from their school or childcare and walk, scooter, or bike with them. Encourage them to point out flowers, colors, or anything they see on the way. If they enjoy the commute, park further away each week or if applicable, walk, bike, or scoot the whole way there.

This summer and fall, make it a priority to get your kid outside and exploring the wonders of nature. It’s great for their health, mental health, and develops an appreciation for nature and the planet.

At Greenfield's Oak Tree, we're passionate about providing kids with unforgettable outdoor experiences that inspire a lifelong love of nature. Join us this summer at one of our Earth Clubs so they can create lasting memories in the great outdoors!
